An intentional walk is four pitches thrown outside the strike zone that gives a hitter a free pass to take first base. Here, an intentional walk is a run, walk, race, or stroll that is intended to help raise awareness for a cause or disease.

Through the Intentional Walks Campaign, the number of intentional walks issued in Major League Baseball will be used to raise funds to support individuals fighting all types of cancer. It is easy to watch four balls sail outside the strike zone; fighting cancer isn’t as easy. Battling for your life, enduring treatments that practically kill every living cell in your body and on top of all that, you have the outside world looking at you as the “sick person”.

Take a stand with us and make a pledge today. Help cheer on the intentional walks both in baseball and in life.
